Renault Malaysia Goes Strong Online - Moving Forward Post Movement Control Order in Malaysia, Subscription, Mobile Application & More

Recently I 'attended' an online media briefing by TC Euro Cars (TCEC), the authorised distributors for Renault in Malaysia and they basically briefed us on how they will move forward especially in this era of social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic which caused the country to go into somewhat of a lockdown. Of course, Renault Malaysia via TCEC had even, prior to this Movement Control Order period decided to have more of and online presence and also their uniquely tailored subscriotion plans which allow customers to have flexible ownership of a Renault.

The innovative Renault Subscription Trial Plan has been announced to be available at all showrooms in Malaysia and customers can now sign-up for unlimited number for times for more affordability and flexibility. The plans allow to be tailored according to your budget and length of time you want a vehicle. The Renault Subscription Fixed and Switch Plans have been updated and additional optional accessories are now available (terms and conditions apply of course).

There is also the Renault Malaysia E-Store.

There are also online exclusive deals for customers who purchase via Renault E-Store include rebates equal to six-month instalments, free five-year service and up to RM8,000 in trade-in rewards. These new packages are also complimented with a 1 week trial subscription package if you are not sure if it will work for you (only limited to the Renault Captur).

The plans currently work for the Renault Captur, Koleos and Megane R.S.

Aside from that, there are launching an application for increased convenience for Renault Subscription customers via new mobile application which will be launched in June 2020. The application features smart key (via smartphone) sharing for the subscribed vehicle.

The thing about Renault here in Malaysia they are quite different in terms of how they deal with being a niche brand here. In a country like Malaysia where car buyers are a little brand conservative in terms of choice, the extra flexibility offered by Renault allows an option that actually allows those who may never try a Renault to try one.

It's a very good approach and with the trial runs and 2 or 3 year subscription services offered allow peace of mind to those who want to try for short terms and also since they don't have to worry about second hand values, it clears up a lot of doubt in the minds of the customers.

In terms of flexibility, they also offer subscription for their pre-owned vehicles too (if there are any in stock). These vehicles are those Renault Captur, Koleos that are about 2 years old and may have been used as company cars or as previous subscription cars. These cars have been checked thoroughly and also come with its own warranty for peace of mind. It comes with a smaller monthly commitment too so it is another option to look at.

Now aside from the online presence and subscription, Renault has also stated that moving on from the MCO business shutdown period, the brand will open its showrooms and service centres with new regulations in place from sanitising serviced vehicles to proper social distancing when receiving customers or vehicles. As usual, businesses will work things out as they need to move forward.

In short, this update is to tell  you that companies are moving on post-MCO and more.

Press Release

RENAULT CONTINUES LEAD IN MALAYSIA’S AUTOMOTIVE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION, ANNOUNCES UPDATES ON SUBSCRIPTION AND E-STORE OFFERINGS

Kuala Lumpur, 27 April 2020 – Renault, through its sole franchise holder in Malaysia TC Euro Cars (TCEC) today announced new updates to its Renault Subscription and E-Store offerings, solidifying its digital leadership position within the local automotive industry.

Through a virtual media update event, yet another first in the country for the industry, TCEC announced an expansion of the Renault Subscription Trial Plan, adjustments to the Subscription Fixed and Switch Plans and an attractive deal for Renault vehicles purchased via the E-Store.

“The world has changed in this increasingly digital age, reshaping the way we work and play, the way consumers behave and the expectations of customers. Digital transformation is now key for businesses and brands to stay relevant in an even more competitive landscape,” said Wong Hoe Mun, CEO, TC Euro Cars. “To stay ahead of the curve, here at TCEC, we kick-started our transformation journey last year. With the current COVID-19 pandemic and MCO, digital-first has been accelerated and we believe we are headed the right direction towards future-proofing our business.”

“We are proud that no other offering in the industry is further ahead in the digital journey than Renault Subscription and Renault E-Store. The new norm will require social distancing. Consumers will need their personal transportation more than ever and we believe the revised subscription plans will be more appealing to them,” he added.

Renault Subscription Offerings Now Expanded and Updated

TCEC is focused on creating a range of options offering affordability, freedom and flexibility for every Malaysian. Be it for short-term, medium-term or long-term usage, there is a plan available combined with the right products that the market is looking for.

Renault Subscription Trial Plan

TCEC is now expanding the Renault Subscription Trial Plan across all Renault showrooms in the country. Piloted early this year with the Renault PJ showroom, Renault Subscription Trial Plan is an affordable plan that offers the Captur at RM399, per week.

More importantly, customers are now allowed to sign up unlimited times as opposed to the previous one-time only offer. The company hopes that the move will help customers who may have had their budgets impacted by the movement control order (MCO) or who are not keen on long-term commitments in this time of uncertainties.

Renault Subscription Fixed and Switch Plan

The Renault Subscription Fixed and Switch Plans have also been adjusted to better meet customer needs and wants.

To balance affordability and customer confidence, the Fixed Plan now includes a three-year plan for the Captur and Koleos models. Previously, a three-year subscription was offered only for the Megane R.S. 280 Cup.

While all monthly rates under the Fixed Plan are still inclusive of road tax, insurance, regular servicing costs and an annual mileage cap of 20,000km, with the new updates, customers can now top up for a total 40,000km, instead of the previous 30,000km.

Meanwhile, the Renault Subscription Switch Plan has also been updated. The Switch Base Plan now offers the Captur Trophy at RM1,999 per month and Switch Prime now offers the Koleos at RM3,199 per month. Under this new Prime Plan, customers will have two months of Renault family access. Both Switch Plans continue to offer all-inclusive costs and flexibility with no mileage cap, wear and tear coverage and the option to cancel at any time with no penalties.

There is also an expanded list of optional accessories and access including security and solar films, child seats, digital video recorders and Singapore access. For affordability, the cost can be included in the monthly fee across the subscription duration instead of having to pay one lump sum up-front.

The Renault Subscription offerings now include Subscription Trial, Fixed and Switch Plans as well as the recently launched Pre-Owned Captur Subscription. The Pre-Owned Captur Subscription was launched on Renault E-Store and Shopee on 22 April 2020 and managed to garner more than 100 paid bookings within three days.

Attractive Online Exclusive Deals via Renault E-Store

The launch of Renault E-Store early this year has enabled the streamlining of sales teams to deliver a consistent experience while translating all savings back to customers.

To this end, customers who purchase any brand-new Renault vehicle online via the E-Store from 20 April to 31 May 2020 can save more with rebates equal to instalments for six months. Other online exclusives for new customers include free five-year or 100,000km service and trade-in rewards worth up to RM8,000.

Customers who choose to Subscribe to a new Renault be it the Fixed or Switch plan will enjoy a one-month free subscription. Customers who opt for the Pre-Owned Captur Subscription plan will continue to enjoy 50 percent off the first six months of their subscription fee.

Offering Easy Life to customers when it counts

As many customers may look to keep their vehicles for longer, TCEC understands that they are looking for support from brands in the maintenance of the vehicles. As such, the company has focused on delivering Easy Life – a key pillar in Renault’s brand promise through:

  • A seamless end-to-end purchase or subscription process online via the E-Store, from arranging for test drives to taking delivery of the vehicle
  • Door-to-door service where customers can request for delivery of their purchased or subscribed vehicles as well as pick-up and drop-off for serviced vehicles, through online bookings via Renault E-Store (available within Klang Valley)
  • Promotions for tyres with a 25 percent discount on each tyre inclusive of free balancing and over 10 percent off on batteries
  • Extended warranty for customers who need additional time to catch up on their servicing needs and extended operating hours for the service centres once MCO is lifted

Mobility on the go

TCEC also shared a teaser of what is to come for Renault Subscription customers. The company will be launching a new mobile application through which customers will be able to manage their Subscription vehicle. Key functions will include:

  • Vehicle Dashboard
  • Location Tracking
  • Lock / Unlock
  • Trip History
  • Car Sharing
  • Reminders
  • Emergency Calls
  • Bluetooth Connectivity

The launch of this mobile application for Renault Subscription customers is scheduled for June and full functionality will be shared with customers closer to launch timing.

While continuing to drive a digital-first approach, TCEC remains committed to prioritising the personal touch that customers demand. To do this, the company created its Digital Engagement Team dedicated to delivering robust customer relations via one-to-one calls to ensure close coordination and follow-ups.
