Lexus LF-NX Previewed Ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show

Lexus has previewed their latest SUV concept car. It is scary looking. Like something Pinhead from the Hellraiser movie series would design. It has the trademark Lexus 'spindle grille' (which is my opinion is basically a chubby baby having it's cheeks pinched while the baby's mouth is slightly opened) and a whole lot of sharp lines instead of being soft, cute and cuddly like their current production SUVs. I just added the cute and cuddly part for the fun of it.

But while this may be a concept car, it may go into production without the overly large wheels and with larger headlights as well as some tweaks here and there if it is well received by visitors at the upcoming Frankfurt motor show where this beast will be previewed. But, it is scary looking.

The Lexus LF-NX adds more of the flashy design cues that we first saw in the recently launched IS series, where things have gotted pretty dramatic in terms of styling and flair. Usually Lexus is seen as an extension to the ultra dull Toyota line-up. Things are shaping up differently. I wouldn't say nicely, but differently.

This is because the LF-NX is seriously scary and ugly looking. It is totally over-styled with character lines everywhere. Even where you don't expect a styling cue, a styling cue is there. Unbelievable. It is a concept car and you'd expect overstyling. But like fashion, anything overtly fashionable becomes out of fashion fast. Like any dress with extra cloth, padding and frills compared to a little black dress, which will be stylish and cool forever.

I suppose this would be effective in showing off Lexus' latest design philosophy which would be adopted a couple of years down the road and toned down a tad bit so that normal people, especially toddlers and senior citizens, would not die of fright when one of these comes trundling down the street.

Boo!
