Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors will be launching the all-new 7th generation Hyundai Elantra (CN7) sometime mid-December 2020. This 2021 model is essentially all new and looks very nice. It will be fully imported in 1.6lirer form and since it is fully imported, prices will be at a premium but it will be specced up in terms of active safety and convenience features too. Oh, there will be a video of the Malaysian preview on our Youtube channel on the new car so stay tuned over there - https://www.youtube.com/motoringmalaysia
Hyundai are proud of the car in terms of its styling. I would too as the car is gorgeous. The front end especially with the lights, grille and everything. The new Elantra is designed for a new generation of car owners who dares to be different, sporty, trendy and are always ahead of the game. Design highlights of the new Elantra are a dramatic look which the Hyundai designers call the “Futuristic Parametric Dynamics” and a chic exterior feature of three-dimensional design that is carefully crafted like a well- cut jewel with wide stark side lines. All I know is that it looks good.
The latest Elantra is the first Hyundai model to be fitted with an intelligent transmission that offers class-leading performance and fuel economy. Paired with the Smartstream G1.6 MPi petrol engine, the new Elantra is capable of producing 123PS of power at 6,300rpm and a peak torque of 154Nm at 4,500rpm. It weights 1,245kg and according to Hyundai, does 0-100 in 10.4seconds. Decent numbers and actually quite industry standards for a 1.6liter engine.
Of course, prices have not been confirmed as yet but lets just say that it will cost over RM130K at least as for an example, the fully imported Mazda 3 1.5 costs RM140K here, and the 2.0 variant costs about RM160k so in this case, being a 1.6liter car from Korea, it should come in at around RM145-150K fully loaded when it is sold here. Especially when you add the amount of active safety stuff it has and other equipment. It can't be bargain priced if you know what I mean.
Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) Managing Director, Mr Low Yuan Lung said the 7 th Generation Elantra with its differentiating design will thrill the market. He added that the new look, which takes inspiration from geometric crystals’ cut body surfaces, is expected to wow customers due to its uniqueness.
"Not only does the car exude sophistication and sportiness, it also offers a fulfilling driving experience. The Elantra provides exciting driving dynamics with the new Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). Hyundai’s new IVT boasts superior fuel efficiency, improved performance and highly responsive gear change with the incorporation of a gear shift response strategy.”
“It is fun to drive a car that is loaded with a host of safety and convenient features, for instance, parking distance warning and wireless phone charging,” he added.
The car is indeed futuristic and very modern...or very 2021 in terms of its design inside and out.....
Apart from the striking design, the interior has an “immersive cocoon” interior that envelops the driver in a technologically-advanced sophisticated cabin that is akin to entering an airplane cockpit. A large interface consisting of two harmoniously connected 10.25-inch Supervision TFT and an 8-inch floating display enhances the futuristic feel of the car. The interior gives the driver access to the latest technology and also the most progressive in-car experience in its class.
The Elantra is another of Hyundai’s products that demonstrates HSDM’s new tagline ‘Geared for Distinction’ which encapsulates the essence of the Hyundai brand in Malaysia. It reflects Hyundai’s transition over the years to a stand-out brand of consequence. From inception to the final product, every Hyundai vehicle is engineered to perform and is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology, a few of which are not even offered in the luxury segment, size for size.
HSDM is targeting a niche market these days. They have found out that it would be hard (at the moment) to compete with the popular makes head on in terms of pricing as here, it is also brand image which seems to play a big part when buyers purchase a car. The product you see here is actually bloody good looking and loaded with features. So they are going on niche and ensuring that the car you purchase comes fully loaded with everything you need.
I would also wish it had that 1.6liter turbo inside it like the top of the line variant. But then, with crazy Malaysian taxes and homologation needs, it may cost as much as RM180K for a C segment sedan. Now who will plonk down money for one?
But you will never know as this is the first new Elantra to be sold. There may be future variants coming in especially since the new management outline is for niche markets- They may bring in small batches of specialty cars if there is demand like the N series I30 brought in recently.
The new Elantra which will be sold at an estimated price of RM1XX,888 is now open for booking with a fee of RM777. Customers can visit www.hyundai.com.my for more information or walk in to at any Hyundai showroom nationwide to secure their bookings.
