BMW Malaysia today unveiled the New BMW M5, marking a new chapter for the iconic performance sedan with the debut of electrified M power. Yes, the M5 is a hybrid electric/petrol powered supersports sedan. The launch was held at the MY BMW World 2025 held at Sentul Depot from 13-15 June, where the New BMW M3 Competition M xDrive was also unveiled, bringing bold design and everyday versatility to a high-performance four-door saloon. The M5 will come in at an estimated RM1.2mil.
Completing the lineup from BMW M is the New BMW M2, delivering pure driving exhilaration in a compact, track-inspired form. Additionally, making its first-ever public debut since its initial unveiling in 2024 is the New BMW M4 Competition Coupé M xDrive, celebrated for its high-performance engineering and deep motorsport heritage, setting the benchmark for dynamic driving.

The New BMW M5 – Motorsports Heritage, Now with an Electrified Drive System for the first time.
The New BMW M5 exudes power and purpose with a confident, athletic stance and motorsport-inspired proportions. Its low-slung profile, flared wheel arches, and sculpted aprons create a commanding visual presence, while clean surfaces and bold character lines highlight its performance-driven design. What I can add is that this generation of the M5 looks better in real life than in the pictures. It features wider wheel arches which translate to a lot of road presence. Previously, the M5 kept the standard width but this has more engineering. And looks the part.
At the front, large angular air intakes and a central M divider hint at the car’s high-performance capabilities, framed by Adaptive LED Headlights with M Lights Shadowline for a sharper, more focused expression. The signature kidney grille is finished in high-gloss black and enhanced with the BMW Iconic Glow exterior package, creating a striking impression for both day and night. Subtle yet unmissable details like the embossed BMW M5 logo on the Hofmeister kink and extended M High-Gloss Shadowline trim along the window line reinforce its exclusive identity. At the rear, a sleek Gurney lip spoiler and vertical reflectors emphasise its wide, planted stance, while the black, two- piece diffuser with hallmark M twin tailpipes add to its motorsports edge. Inside the New BMW M5, high-performance character meets premium comfort in a driver-focused cockpit that reflects the vehicle’s motorsport heritage. At its centre is the BMW Curved Display, comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen, both powered by BMW Live Cockpit Professional, supplemented with M-specific graphics. Intuitive control is offered via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and the centre console’s exclusive M Controller.

The New BMW M5 now has an all-new M Hybrid powertrain — combining a high-performance V8 engine with electrified drive to mark a bold new chapter in BMW M history. The high-performance M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine delivers 430 kW (585 hp), working in tandem with a fifth-generation BMW eDrive electric motor producing 145 kW (197 hp) to deliver a combined system output of 727 hp and a staggering 1,000 Nm of torque.
With power channelled through the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, the New BMW M5 achieves 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and 200 km/h in just 10.9 seconds. The seamless interplay between electric and combustion power unlocks an entirely new dimension of drive responsiveness and elasticity. Instantaneous acceleration is further heightened by “Boost Control,” which delivers peak torque on demand between 30 and 150 km/h — activated with a simple pull of the left shift paddle in M Track mode. When electric torque supports the V8 under full throttle, mid-range sprints such as 80–120 km/h take just 2.9 seconds quicker than its predecessor. The V8’s iconic high-revving soundtrack is enhanced by the BMW M Sport exhaust system and the acoustically tuned BMW IconicSounds Electric when operating in hybrid mode.
The M Hybrid’s high-voltage lithium-ion battery is integrated flat within the underbody, preservingboth a low centre of gravity and generous cabin space. With a net capacity of 18.6 kWh, the high- voltage battery supports electric driving for up to 69 kilometres (WLTP). Charging is managed via the Combined Charging Unit (CCU), with AC charging of up to 11 kW enabling a full recharge in just over three hours.
