PROTON displays their new S70 race car made for the upcoming S1K race in Sepang

PROTON has unveiled the Proton S70 R3 racing car developed by  its motorsport arm, R3 Motorsports at the ongoing 2024 Malaysia Autoshow, in MAEPS, Serdang (till the 26th of May 2024). The Proton S70 R3 marks Proton R3's first all-new racing car since the Proton Saga R3 back in 2019. This is brand's return to the S1K endurance race since 2019, as if you remember, by the next year or so, we had a pandemic and so on. With five wins under its belt, more than any other team to date, Proton R3 achieved a remarkable feat by securing victory for three consecutive years from 2017 to 2019.

This all-new racing machine is an extension of Proton's enduring racing legacy, tracing back to its pre-R3 era when  the company competed in rallies and circuit competitions with the original Proton Saga. The S70 race car is still in development  by R3 where the show car displayed at the Malaysia Autoshow features the latest evolution of the aerodynamic package  tailored for the race. PROTON is set to campaign two units of the new car at this year's Sepang S1K 1,000km endurance race.

“PROTON has a long history in motorsports, starting with the original Proton Saga and our involvement was ramped  up with the inception of Proton R3 in 2003. Since then, we have competed and won in various competitions up to  a global level with models as varied as the Proton Satria, Waja, Suprima S, Iriz, and the latest version of the Saga.

Now with the Proton S70 R3, we are adding another milestone to our legacy, marking not only the return of the  Proton name to the S1K event but also the first racing car based on a model jointly developed by Proton and  Geely,” said Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, PROTON.

Like most S1K race cars in the category that PROTON are entering in, it will most likely run a normally aspirated engine instead of the S70's regular 1.5liter turbocharged engine. A shame, but a necessity.

We will see some magic being done by the folks at PROTON on the S70 come race day. The display race car at the autoshow is just a teaser of how the car will look like and you folks who have your S70 and want to emulate the real deal, you should come check out the car at the Malaysia Autoshow.

I've seen the car at the show and it does show promise.

Aside from the race car, there are exciting offers from PROTON at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024

Buyers and visitors can enhance their visit to the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 with exclusive promotions and rewards  from PROTON during the event. Attendees who book their Proton models on the spot will receive exclusive gifts  such as sunshades, toll readers, and wireless chargers for certain models.

A special promo is also being offered  that is exclusive to bookings placed at the Autoshow with registration by 30 June 2024. It includes two years of  free service maintenance for the X50, X70, and X90 models as well as RM500 cash voucher for the PROTON  S70, Saga, and Persona.
