We get to take it on a short off-road session in the 2025 Jaecoo J8 All Wheel Drive variant courtesy of OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia recently. The editor, enjoyed the short test drive session and basically explains how the J8 SUV performed. This J8 AWD actually makes it quite a decent drive for under RM200,000. A lot of decent off-road prowess for something essentially used in urban settings. This is very much a budget Range Rover for those wanting a SUV with some ability.
New test drive video on our YouTube channel folks! This time its a 2024 onwards Isuzu D-Max. The 2024 onwards Isuzu D-Maxis more than a facelift according to the folks at Isuzu. Numerous changes particularly to the front and rear design elements, wheels and interior have been given attention to provide the vehicle with fresh appeal. The pickup truck tested is the Malaysian spec Isuzu D-Max 3.0L 4X4 X-Terrain.
Yup. A few weeks after we were invited to a preview of the soon to be launched in Malaysia smart #1 battery electric crossover we can now show you interior shots of the car with what we can say will be the trim that is selected for #1 sold in Malaysia. Barring last minute changes of course. Like I mentioned in the previous post, the smart #1 is a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, so it features so many Mercedes-Benz touches that I feel that this is essentially a rebadged, slightly more entry level variant of the EQ range of electric vehicles that Mercedes-Benz produces.
This is a hot lap around half of the Sepang Circuit. Actually, it is more of a 'warm' lap of the South Track (half track) Sepang Circuit in the Proton X50 1.5TGDI Flagship variant compact SUV by Ex-Proton R3 (Motorsport) Driver Mr Fariqe Hairuman. It wasn't stomach churning dramatic or anything as the nasi biryani I had for lunch stayed inside my stomach and did not come out the same way it came in. This exercise was part of the 2nd Media Preview of the new Proton X50 featuring Active Safety & Performance Features.

This facelifted model actually takes over both the 1.8liter and 2.0liter TSI variants here and is actually even cheaper than the sole 2.0liter variant sold here previously. The 1.8TSI started at RM159K for the base Trendline and RM179K for the Comfortline. So the single 2.0TSI seems to be good value and actually suits Malaysian car buying trends where the highest specification variant seems to be the one that sells the best in the long run.
Below is the video review / test drive of the 2020 Isuzu D-Max Double Cab 1.9L AT-Premium. It was put up on the Motoring Malaysia YouTube channel last week and I have not put a link to it here. I must have forgotten about it actually. Anyway, another video review for you guys to watch, especially since most of Malaysia and certain parts of the world are on a semi-lockdown due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak. As we said in our earlier article with regards to the new 2019 Toyota GR Supra, we had driven Toyota's newest flagship sports car and it was bloody good fun. You can see the drive was just a short one but super memorable as we did a high speed run and some handling exercises which still allows us to have some pretty good initial impressions on this Euro-Japan hybrid sports car.
Down below are our two YouTube videos on the Scania G410. This is the latest Scania Prime Mover or heavy duty truck that is sold in Malaysia. Their New Truck Generation series of large commercial vehicles was only recently launched here. This G-Series truck is part of their latest line-up which includes the larger, more premium S-Series truck. But watch the video and you can actually see that this G410 is no slouch.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI is an icon. It brought out the first ever successful formula for what a hot hatch should be. Some argued that it may not have been the first ever hot hatch, but whatever the case, the Golf GTI perfected that formula. That formula you see today is basically a mass production hatchback, most likely front wheel driven that was upgraded with a very powerful engine and suspension to suit. This is what the Golf GTI is to this day. And today's article (and video you see here) is about the latest model - the 2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk 7.5.

As stated in an earlier article, where I featured Malaysian Rally Champion YS Khong's review of the 2019 Proton Saga facelift I was in the midst of preparing Motoring Malaysia's video of the first drive experience in this A segment sedan. I must say this this is the best A segment sedan on the market today in terms of how it drives.
Here is our video on our walk through review of the new 2019 Proton Saga facelift and its specifications at its launch. It isn't that long as it is the just basic run through of what we think of the newly facelifted car. At just under 6 minutes long, we do cover most of the basic aspects of the car and what was highlighted by Proton.

So I recently got to try out the All-New 2019 4th generation Hyundai Santa Fe recently. The try out happened during the recent media drive of the 7 seater SUV which took a bunch of media type folks from Batu 3 in Shah Alam and into the Malaysian countryside where we did a spot of off-roading in both the 2.4liter Petrol and 2.2liter CDRi turbodiesel variants. The Santa Fe performed quite admirably for what is essentially a 'soft-roader' as I would call it. Do note that this time I only drove both the 2.4 Petrol and the 2.2 Diesel Executive variants and not the more Premium variants. The time factor was also in play here as it was quite a short trip to Negeri Sembilan and back this time.

This is the video of my track test / session on the Sepang Circuit with the 2019 BMW M2 Competition. As I've stated in the launch article, which has a written part of this drive experience, the compact coupe is sublime. The car feels like something ol' skool as the 3.0liter twin turbocharged in-line six feels so lag free and full of throttle response.Go read it here if you haven't.

This time its our experience trying out the slightly refreshed 2019 Proton Exora Premium 1.6 T(Turbo) CVT during the recent media test drive up to Bukit Tinggi, Pahang and back to Shah Alam. It was short, but we did manage to find out some new things about the C Segment 7 Seater MPV.

Selamat Hari Raya AidilFitri...Maaf Zahir & Batin. No updates here but we have not been quiet during this month of Ramadhan. We did quite a few videos over on YouTube folks so while we have been taking a break from writing, we have not been stopping doing videos, which is why I do suggest you people subscribe to the Motoring Malaysia channel over on YouTube.
I have to say that YouTube is the future as more and more people like moving pictures. It isn't as easy to produce compared to writing but both have their challenges. Personally, writing is nice as it allows your poetic side to use words to convey a picture within one's mind. As for video, it is easier to record, but on a personal note, I prefer to make our videos have better production values rather than just doing one long take and talking about a certain vehicle.
Note that I do like editing my videos so that it becomes somewhat like a mini documentary with a lot of B-Roll showing the vehicles rather than just a hand doing a walkaround.
Anyway, here are some of the videos which I have not updated here as yet. There is one on the facelifted Proton Iriz & Persona and on the newly available for sale here in Malaysia, 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. Not forgetting we have the launch video of the slightly revised 2019 Proton Exora 1.6 Turbo
