There is a new video by Motoring Malaysia out over on the YouTube Channel folks! If you haven't subscribed there you should as this video, where we test drove the 2019 Mercedes-Benz E350 AMG Line (W213 E-Class) has been out since Monday. Now, it's linked here and you get to watch it here or read a bit more of what I haven't covered about this premium sedan.
Actually, there isn't much which needs to be said after the 24 minutes long video which I have embedded above. The 2019 E350 in this AMG Line form is actually quite fabulous. It offers a lot of premium pleasures for its RM399,888 asking price. We shall touch a bit on what I feel I haven't covered in the video and some still photos for you to gaze a little.
The interior is well fitted out. The plastics are very acceptable and seems well screwed together. Some seem to say that it isn't as solid like the older W212 series E-Class. I think it isn't as solid, but it still feels more substantial than most cars out there today. It is more like industry standards rather than totally class leading. But in terms of other materials inside, the leather, metal bits and trim seem to be alright.
It also exudes luxury in a modern sense of way. More than any other achievable luxury car out there in its class. There is the right amount of pomp, class and elegance. It conveys a sense that you've made it in life and somehow, this is what I believe is necessary in any luxury sedan over anything else. This car does this in bucket loads. I believe any owner would feel quite satisfied even after owning or driving it after a few years. Some cars would make you feel bored, or not up to par. This one will actually make you feel good even after a long ownership period.
Let's start with the high speed handling of this car. On the highways it is so sorted out that you can actually cruise easily at 180km/h. IF the road permits. It hardly breaks a sweat as for a 2.0liter engine, with that EQ Boost starter-alternator belt driven combo, makes 299hp and 400Nm torque. That EQ Boost system brings 150Nm or thereabouts into play very early on so there is basically no such thing as 'turbo' lag to say the least. And this is a big D-Segment or full sized premium sedan mind you.
In terms of fuel consumption...well, some of you may still ask but honestly, if you can afford the RM300K asking price, what is petrol to you when it allows you to have so much fun? 0-100km/h is despatched in under 6 seconds (5.9) and you can easily reach its limited to 250km/h maximum speed. But if you insist, the photo above shows an average of 12.9liters per 100km. This is after I had a whole lotta fun in it and more. Most normal drives should net you at least a liter or two below this figure. I have a heavy foot. What can I say.
Aside from that, I don't think I need to say anything else about this car. It is competent, comfortable and fast. It somewhow has that nice balance between pace and grace. It isn't as sporty as its smaller C300 sibling, but it now offers more space and an added level of refinement in terms of some additional soundproofing. Yes, it is quieter than the W205 C-Class. This is why you buy a W213 E-Class.
So do watch the video folks. It takes up a little bit more of my time and if would mean a whole lot if you watched it. Note that the video isn't some guy holding a camera walking around the car kinda vid. There is some effort there you know.
