Chery Auto Malaysia has officially launched the Chery TIGGO 7 PRO SUV. The newly launched SUV is priced at RM123,800 and can now be ordered at a slight early bird price of RM119,800 for the first 2,000 customers. According to Chery with its tagline ‘Conquer with You, Guard for Love’ , the TIGGO series embodies safety, reliability, and a seamless driving experience .
The Chery TIGGO 7 PRO, a five-seater SUV is a B compact and durable, offering advanced safety features and efficient performance, ensuring a delightful journey for both driver and passengers alike. Globally, in 2023, the Chery TIGGO 7 line was Chery’s star product contributing to more than 200,000 unit of sales.
The TIGGO 7 Pro is assembled in Malaysia, hence the competitive pricing and is powered by a 1.6liter turbocharged engine which makes 194hp. Impressive for the price and segment. With its 2,670mm wheelbase, this is a compact SUV in the C segment category, but I have to say, it looks quite small in the metal for what it is.
However, I have to also state that the TIGGO 7 Pro offers alot of car for the money in terms of performance specification, pricing and warranty.These new offerings by Chinese car makers have been entering the market, and it does bode well for the Malaysian consumer in that it offers so many choices in this RM100,000 to RM150,000 category until is is pretty confusing to some.
On a personal note, I think Chery Malaysia will be one of the brands that will stick around longer than most because they have actually put so much into making the brand succeed. Their recent assembly plant opening in Shah Alam for their premium brand JAECOO is testament as they are investing a whole lot here and intend to make Malaysia a right hand drive research hub for their RHD market.
The TIGGO 7 is different from the more futuristic styled OMODA, and I think this is to target the more conservative buyer that wants a lot of space and more conventional styling. The internal styling is modern with all the nice large infotainment screen and large LED instrument clusters. You can't complain in terms of what is given inside of the SUV. It is well equipped and seems to be using materials that are usually seen in most of the cars in this price segment or even a little higher. Gone are the days of Chery from the 2000s, I remember seeing one at the KL International Motor Show sometime then and this is light years ahead of that - and only 20 or so years have passed. Not a hundred years or so in terms of quality.
And on another note, I do believe that this is a great time to buy a Chery as you may have heard that there was a debacle regarding the OMODA rear axle. Why do I say so? Well, there will actually be extra or better quality control now as a result of this so Chery cars sold here right now will have better QC after this.
No person working in any company will want to see their rice bowl empty. So you can bet your lunch that they want to sell the best product coming from their assembly plants.
