EDITOR'S OPINION: The DRB-Hicom-Geely deal has been formalised - PROTON's Saga Continues as well as Lotus Cars too

Yes. PROTON's saga continues (pun intended) with the announcement that Geely will become its strategic partner. The super large China based vehicle manufacturer has become PROTON's savior. Most of you are aware and almost everyone I know has been talking about it. Almost everyone because my immediate family members don't really seem to care much. Well, you can't expect my mum, wife and thirteen year old kid become automotive industry experts do you?

DRB-HICOM says that all Foreign Strategic Partner Bidders are still in the running - Move along folks, let's just wait till mid-2017.

There have been news recently that Geely, the China auto maker, who is purportedly in the running to become Proton's foreign strategic partner has dropped out of contention. Geely and the French PSA group have been seen as the fore-runners in this exercise and such a news is indeed worrying to some.

MILITARY VEHICLES: DEFTECH showcases its latest projects - GEMPITA AV8 8X8, LIPANBARA HMAV 4X4, HICOM HANDALAN II & MORE

Lt. Kol (K) Dato' Amril showing us the newly named LIPANBARA armoured 4x4

I was at the Defence Services ASIA 2016 Exhibition (DSA2016) earlier today. The exhibition was nothing new to me as I had been frequenting it over the past decade or so for work. But today I was invited by the nice people at DRB-HICOM so that I get to participate in the sit down session with the Group CEO of DRB-HICOM Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd aka DEFTECH, Lt. Kol. (K) Dato' Amril Samsudin, to see what they've been doing in terms of military transportation and combat vehicles as well as their other stuff. Quite different from the norm eh? Well, variety is the spice of life.
