PROTON officially launches the normally aspirated 2026 Proton S70 Lite and S70 Prime variants - B segment prices for C segment cars

Yestarday evening, the 22nd September, PROTON launched the 2026 PROTON S70 Lite and Prime variants. These 1.5liter normally aspirated variants (instead of being turbocharged from its launch) are priced from RM56,800. The new variants bring a cheaper, more affordable option, but without eschewing equipment levels. Those that want comfort, specifications and wish to just use the S70 as transport will love it.

Now this is interesting. After only three or so turbocharged variants and a facelift, there is finally a non-turbocharged Proton S70 sedan that we can buy. PROTON has announced that there will be new- Lite and Prime variants featuring i-GT 1.5-litre and CVT powertrain added to expanded range of S70 sedans for Malaysians to buy. This gets you the same space, comfort and convinience of the current S70 but without turbo boost and at a much cheaper price range. There will be two variants as stated above and it will be estimated to be priced under RM60,000 before insurance. Order books to open on 7 September at all Proton dealers nationwide

What this 2027 Proton S70 non-turbo is basically the iGT 1.5liter engine you see in the latest, and greatest Proton Saga. The top spec Saga gets this 1.5liter normally aspirated engine and a CVT gearbox powering its front wheels. This engine is the same Geely based turbocharged 1.5liter engine you see in all of Proton's cars like the X50, X70, S70 etc. but is has its turbocharger removed. What this does is allow for a more basic engine, with more basic performance figures for those that want what is essentially TRANSPORT. This will not kill contis on a daily basis but transport you and your family in relative comfort.
