Chery Malaysia had on the 3rd of October 2025 launched its Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs): the TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV SUVs The Tiggo 7 PHEV will be priced at RM129,800 on the road before insurance while the TIGGO 8 PHEV is priced at RM159.800 before insurance and both are fully decked out in terms of its specification and equipment levels, with some slight differences.
While the TIGGO 8 is essentially a 7 seater TIGGO 7 (which is a 5 seater), there are enough equipment differences between the models. The price difference is because of the differences in equipment, slightly upgraded features as well as the extra length in the TIGGO 8. So there was a balance of equipment and specifications in both models that Chery Malaysia needed to do to sell at the price point they chose for the models.
The TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV features Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) system. This is Chery's dedicated technology platform that integrates three core components to deliver very efficient hybrid performance and technology. First is the Dedicated Hybrid Engine fitted in both models, the ACTECO 1.5TGDi – 5th Generation - 44.5% world-class thermal efficiency for outstanding fuel savings and power. Up to 1,200km of range with a combined power outputof 275 PS and 365 Nm of torque.
Second is the Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). This is a seamless and intelligent power deliveryt transmission for smooth, responsive driving. Combined driving range of up to 1200km, experience the sensation of pure electric driving with dual internal electric motors available to move the vehicle and to charge the high voltage battery.
And lastly, the Advanced Battery System: 18.3kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, high- capacity, high-safety battery technology ensuring fast charging capability, long range and reliability of up to 90km of pure EV driving.

The Chery TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV is powered by a petrol powered 1.5L TurbochargedDirect Injection Engine (TGDi) delivering an impressive, combined power of 275 PS and 365 Nm of torque. It is equipped with Chery’s advanced Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).
Boasting 98% mechanical efficiency, the system transfers nearly all engine and motor power directly to the wheels, delivering smoother acceleration, stronger responsiveness, and greater overall efficiency.
Both models are powered by an 18.3 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a pure electric driving range of up to 90 kilometres.
Renowned for its high endurance and safety, the LFP battery also supports fast charging capability. The new PHEVs offer versatile charging solutions. With DC fast charging (40 kW), the battery charges from 30% to 80% in just 19 minutes while the AC charging (6.6 kW) achieves the same range in 3 hours and with a standard 3-pin charger, a full charge overnight in takes about 8.5 hours. For added practicality, the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function (3.3 kW) allows external power discharge.
The new TIGGO 7 and TIGGO 8 PHEV showcase a bold and premium design cues. Both models feature redesigned bumpers for a tougher, more modern stance, along with a refreshed front grille — with the TIGGO 7 PHEV sporting a vertical diamond-embedded pattern, while the TIGGO 8 PHEV highlights a more refined, premium look with flush fitting door handles also.
The intelligent high-performance LED headlamps provide maximum visibility, with the TIGGO 8 PHEV featuring an exclusive illuminated logo at the centre that turns heads, especially at night. Active cornering lights further enhance safety by following steering movement during evening drives.
Standard across the range, HD DVR ensures added protection and security, while double- glazed glass provides a quieter cabin experience.
Functional roof rails support active lifestyles, while a generous 60-litre fuel tank offers longer range between refuels.
At the rear, the TIGGO 8 PHEV stands out with its one-piece LED taillight design that stretches across the width of the vehicle, complemented by flush door handles for a clean, modern profile (normal door handles on the TIGGO 7). The other difference is the tailgate of the TIGGO 7 is an automatic tailgate and a panoramic sunroof while the 8 is a manual tailgate and no sunroof, This is likely down to Chery Malaysia choosing the best equipment for the price offered.
Both models ride on sportier, newly designed rims that complete their dynamic and elegant exterior presence.
Inside, both models are powered by the 8155 Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, delivering ultra- fast, lag-free performance across their advanced displays.
The TIGGO 7 PHEV features a 24.6” Integrated Dual-Screen setup, blending the instrument cluster and infotainment for a sleek, futuristic look.
The TIGGO 8 PHEV introduces a 15.6” Infotainment Display, serving as the striking centrepiece of its spacious and refined cabin. The TIGGO 8 actually sports a redesigned dashboard with that larger screen and a steering column gear shifter vs the center console one on the Tiggo 7. It differs from the TIGGO 8 petrol only variant which features the same style of dashboard and infotainment system as the TIGGO 7. This 8 PHEV actually features a newer design which is used in an improved Tiggo 7 and 8 sold over in China. We get some of this, and some of that from the looks of it.
Both SUVs elevate the driving experience with intelligent features — the TIGGO 7 PHEV adds a Driving Monitoring System to keep the driver focused, while the TIGGO 8 PHEV enhances the journey with dual-zone climate control and a SONY 10-speaker premium audio system over the 8 speaker Sony system in the 7. Ambient lighting sets the mood in both SUVs, with 64 colour options that can be personalised by music rhythm or drive mode.
Seating comfort is prioritised too: the TIGGO 7 PHEV offers ventilated sport leather seats with flexible storage solutions, while the TIGGO 8 PHEV comes with premium synthetic leather seating. Both models come with 6-way driver and 4-way passenger adjustments for tailored comfort.
Safety is a top priority for both TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV which are equipped with the latest generation of the Advanced Driver Assistance System.
