This morning, WTC Automotif (M) Sdn Bhd (WTCA), the official distributor of GAC in Malaysia, officially launched the all-new GAC EMKOO. This is a C segment SUV, with prices starting from RM123,800 for the Premium variant and the Premium Pro variant is priced at RM133,800. Both are on the road prices before any insurance. To celebrate the launch, early customers will enjoy an Exclusive Early Bird Promo, which includes a RM4,000 cash rebate along with a complimentary accessory package worth RM10,000*, making the EMKOO an even more attractive choice for Malaysian SUV buyers.
The Early Bird Accessory Package comes with upgrades such as a 2-Channel DVR with 64GB Micro SD Card, EMKOO Exclusive Kick Plate, Luggage Tray and Sport Pedals. Aside from the above, buyers of the Premium variant will also receive Vkool Solar Tint and an Electric Power Tailgate (which comes standard in the Pro variant but an option for the Premium variant), while Premium Pro buyers will be equipped with Vkool Security Tint for added protection. These offers are limited to the first 500 owners under the campaign’s specific terms and conditions(*).
The All New GAC EMKOO is powered by a petrol 1.5TGDI engine coupled with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission powering the front wheels of this SUV.. GAC states that it has an officially tested fuel efficiency of 6.6L/100km (NEDC). Its 0 to 100 km/h time is 8.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 190km/h.
The SUV has an exterior styling which is an edgy style and quite different from the usual less edgy style of SUVs in this price segment. Usually the SUVs here are rounded, more bulbous looking while the EMKOO gets shartp lines with edges. GAC states that the design is like the Japanese anime 'Mecha' style and there are sharp angles overall with X shaped rear lights, and a criss cross front grille to match. While you do see a mash up of some Japanese and European SUV styling, it still looks quite different from the offering of other brands out there. It does bring something different to the pot of SUVs here in Malaysia.
Inside, there is a Heads-Up Display (HUD) that projects key information directly onto the windshield. This is supported by a 10.25-inch LCD digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It has a segment-leading trunk capacity of 638 litres which can be expanded to 1,586 litres with the rear seats folded, offering flexibility for every journey.
The EMKOO also comes equipped with advanced safety technologies including a full suite of Level 2 ADAS, Full Automatic Parking Assist (FAPA), and GAC’s proprietary Adaptive Vehicle Dynamic Control (AVDC), ensuring safety, confidence and peace of mind on every journey.
The EMKOO is the second GAC CKD or locally assembled model in Malaysia, the EMKOO reflects GAC’s and WTCA’s continued commitment to expanding local assembly and long-term brand growth in Malaysia. With this launch, GAC Malaysia is building on the success of the GS3 EMZOOM and further reinforcing its ambition to deliver stylish, high-quality vehicles tailored to local customer needs. This launch event isn't the first time the EMKOO has been shown. It was first previewed across nationwide roadshows and exhibitions in July of this year.
The GAC EMKOO is offered in five distinct exterior colors: Super Star Silver, Graphite Grey, Frost White, and Asphalt Black, complemented by the all-new Star Lake Green; all exterior colours come in a black leatherette interior with red accents. This new colour combination offers a striking balance of sophistication and sportiness, giving buyers a variety of choices to match their lifestyle and personality. Customers will further enjoy peace of mind with a 5-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty and a 7-year or 180,000km engine and powertrain warranty, whichever comes first.
GAC Malaysia also announced an expanded comprehensive network coverage of 45 service centres across Malaysia effective from October 2025, ensuring greater coverage, accessibility and convenience for GAC owners.
Mr. Tan Keng Meng, Chief Executive Officer of Warisan TC Holdings Bhd, said: “The launch of the EMKOO represents another important step in GAC’s growth journey in Malaysia. With the success of the EMKOO local assembly, the extraordinary attractive early bird promotions, improved and expanded aftersales support, the EMKOO is positioned to deliver outstanding value to Malaysian SUV buyers while strengthening GAC’s brand and presence in the market.”
The all-new GAC EMKOO is now available for booking and test drives at GAC showrooms nationwide, with the first batch of customer deliveries beginning immediately.
Definitely more variety for Malaysians in the very highly competitive RM100,000 to RM150,000 price segment. It does seem that everyone is contesting this segment and the GAC EMKOO is the latest one in the ring. If I were to have an opinion on it I would say that the SUV looks different enough for someone to have an interest in it. The specifications are comprehensive with all the features you would actually use and more. The early bird package offers some extras especially the RM4,000 rebate. If you are looking for a SUV with just an internal combustion engine with some edgy styling, in this price range, this is another option. Cars these days are competent enough even if they are designed in China and assembled in Malaysia.
