Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd recently launched a new range of Shell Rimula engine lubricants for pick-ups and light duty trucks. These new lubes are the Shell Rimula Light Duty LD4 15W-40 (API CI-4) and LD5 10W-40 (API CK-4) Synthetic Technology and are specially formulated to ensure optimum performance for the smaller type of trucks that operate in heavy stop-start traffic and/or idling conditions while carrying variable heavy loads. Aside from them, Shell Malaysia have also announced the 2019 Shell Rimula Ultimate Stopover Barcelona Promotion where you may win a chance to travel to Spain.
Shell Lubricants Marketing General Manager May Tan had said at the launch that the bulk of new commercial vehicle sales in Malaysia comprised of pick-ups and light duty trucks. While Shell Malaysia also stated Shell Rimula is the market leader in heavy duty diesel engine oils in Malaysia and globally, this new Light Duty range marks Shell Rimula’s entry into a more consumer type of lubricant segment rather than for transport operators which operate more specific medium to heavy duty type of commercial vehicles.
The types of trucks targeted by the new Shell Rimula range are usually used in short haul, urban type on environments where there are lots of traffic jams involved, or hard core off-roading where the pickup trucks do a lot of low speed crawling. It also makes sense for Shell Malaysia to target this demographic as sales have shown that they are indeed popular for both recreational purposes (the pickup trucks) as well as the light duty trucks' usage for the increasing number of delivery trucks needed for online sales deliveries.

The mineral oil-based Shell Rimula Light Duty LD4 is aimed at meeting the needs of light duty trucks that are the workhorses of almost every commercial enterprise here in Malaysia. The LD4 is for the cost conscious truck operator who needs the best in terms of performance and length of time during oil changes. The fully synthetic Shell Rimula Light Duty LD5 is suited for pick-ups and other 4x4 trucks. The fully synthetic oil here is targeted at the liftstyle user, where the pickup trucks are used for non-commercial usage most of the time and their owners are more concerned with the quality of the oil rather than only cost. Both are available at selected independent workshops, spare part shops and Shell retail stations.
Both the Shell Rimula Light Duty LD4 and LD5 come in 7.5-litre pails. This is actually the perfect size for a single oil-change without needing top-ups for most light trucks. The recommended retail price for the Shell Rimula Light Duty LD4 is RM120.00 in Peninsular Malaysia and RM121.50 in Sabah and Sarawak. The Shell Rimula Light Duty LD5 is priced at RM195.00 (Peninsular Malaysia) and RM196.50 (Sabah and Sarawak).
