Today, I took some time off my somewhat surprisingly busy schedule (especially since I have been slowly easing into semi-retirement from the looks of it) and spent a few hours with BMW Group Malaysia over at their latest roadshow in front of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in KLCC. There, the new BMW i7 limousine takes center stage and a showcase of this EV variant of the latest 7 series that is on sale. Recently launched, but now BMW Malaysia puts it in the limelight after just launching it with some of the media folk getting test drives. They also announced that in terms of the total BMW Group Malaysia, they seem to have taken lead in the Premium EV Segment amidst outstanding EV deliveries to date, for the year 2023.
As part of the celebreation BMW Group here in Malaysia being market leaders in the premium electrified vehicle (EV) market, they have revealed new unlimited charging packages, as well as their latest initiative with Gentari to provide Malaysians with mobile EV charging solutions.
The BMW roadshow is called‘Forwardism, by BMW’. Details of the event happening until 12th November 2023 in front of the aforementioned Mandarin Oriental Hotel is stated down below as are deals for all BMW Group vehicles and the current arrangement with Gentari for charging facilities.
Aside from that, Gentari also displayed their mobile EV charging vehicles that can bring on the go fast DC charging to where you EV car is located at. This extra facilities would be convenient especially if you suddenly run out of juice and need that quick top-up for you to continue your journey.
These days, EVs may have range up to 600km, but sometimes, it still isn't easy to get chargers in some places in these early days of EV usage. So these mobile charging vehicles are indeed a blessing.
Official Press Release is below with more photos of the new 2023 BMW i7. This is a very unique looking 7 series in terms of its styling. The split light front end and that very large kidney grille is opinion dividing, but I believe that BMWs these days look better in real life than in the photos. This i7 looks good in the metal and is imposing. The key design feature is that the Daytime Running LIghts (DRL) is the silhouette of the grille aside from the top part of twin light setup. In short, a permanent feature in the i7 and definitely a statement piece when you arrive in one.
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE with more photos of the i7 below too.
Kuala Lumpur, 18th September 2023 – BMW Group Malaysia today unveiled an electrifying achievement, taking lead as the Number One Premium EV provider in Malaysia with over 1,600 units in BMW, MINI & BMW Motorrad EV delivered in just eight months this year. This far surpasses the total of 1,557 units of BMW & MINI EV delivered by the premium automaker in 2022. While this remarkable milestone reflects the BMW Group Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to Sheer Electric Driving Pleasure, it also further cements their status as the Number One Premium Automaker in Malaysia for the last three years.
Hans de Visser, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia said, “At the heart of our vision for an Electric Future lies a profound commitment to electrification that seeks to reshape the future of mobility, where sustainability, luxury and innovation converge. Revolutionising Charging Accessibility with Gentari’s Charge Go.
To truly catalyse the transition to Electrified Mobility, BMW Group Malaysia recognises the need to address the most pressing concern shared by many potential EV owners in Malaysia: range and charging anxiety. To this end, the premium automaker expands their strategic partnership with Gentari, a clean energy solutions provider via its wholly-owned subsidiary, Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, to make EV charging more accessible and convenient for all. Building upon Gentari’s success in establishing widespread EV charging infrastructure nationwide over the past year, the two organisations are now bringing Charge Go to life — a trailblazing mobile EV charging service that can provide on-the-go DC fast-charging.
De Visser emphasized, "We are thrilled to bring our mobile charging vehicle concept – one that we unveiled earlier this year, to life with Gentari. Our partnerships with key players like them underscore our belief that industry-wide collaboration is the engine driving the transformation towards an Electric Future. We hope to inspire more players in this field to elevate their commitment to electrification, collectively enriching the local EV ecosystem. This collaboration will be made available towards end of 2023.”
Shah Yang Razalli, Deputy CEO of Gentari and CEO of Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd said, "The launch of Charge Go with BMW is another innovative solution that exemplifies Gentari's customer-centricity. This mobile charging solution is a product of the collective effort amongst local industry players, including SMEs, to strengthen the local EV ecosystem in coming up with our very own and locally designed solution in this space. This solution, the first of many to come from Gentari, aims to bolster range confidence, making the transition to EVs an easy one.”
