Last year many private car importers brought in the R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R into Malaysia. All of these were brought in because they were now older than 25 years old and the import permit required fell under the classic car status. The classic car status import permits are actually easier to get approval with the only issue being the age of the car and the limited, more niche market it has compared to brand new cars. So now another one of these 25 year old classics have 'flooded' our shores - the Honda NSX - like this one from 1990.
This is a real sports car classic. It looks like a supercar but in reality, the 276hp 3.0 V6 engine is a tad bit underpowered for it to be called a supercar (but sounds superb when it is singing). But a Honda NSX has its pedigree. A whole lot of it to be exact. Said to be honed on track by the late, great Aryton Senna and also styling touches by Pininfarina (supposedly) the NSX is a great, all round sports car. Great on the track and also great to go to the local coffee shop. I used to remember an uncle of mine who used to drive a NSX automatic driving it with flip-flops whilst wearing a sarong to a family gathering in the late 1990s. Yes, it was a practical sports car...before Audi made the R8.
So here is one of the few units now on sale here in Malaysia. It is ambitiously priced at RM275,000 thereabouts. There are some which are cheaper, but this comes in Championship White. Yes, it is an automatic NSX, but firstly, it's an NSX, so I don't care whatever form it comes in. Secondly, I believe all of the NSX brought in are automatics so the choice is limited to this gearbox. Thirdly, I want to be able to drive one in the traffic packed LDP highway and have teh tarik with my friends without bitching and swearing. Then again, it is a NSX. This car, the GT-R R32 and the Toyota Supra make up the holy trinity of 90's Japanese sportcars.
Only wish it were cheaper. But I think bargaining like crazy could be possible.

NSX became the world's first mass-produced car to feature an all-aluminium body.
It was powered by an all-aluminium 3.0 L V6 engine, which featured Honda's VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system developed in the 1980s, a 5-speed manual or 4-speed Sports Shift automatic transmissions.
