VIDEO: Road trip to Melaka and back in the new 2025 PROTON X50 SUV

This is a review of the new 2025 PROTON X50 compact SUV. This was recently launched here in Malaysia and is the facelift of what is currently the most popular B segment Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in Malaysia. It features a redesigned front and rear end, a redesigned interior with a very large, now HD infotainment screen with a new dashboard design. Most importantly is a new 1.5liter turbo petrol 4 cylinder engine replacing the old 3 cylinder one. The new engine runs through a 7 speed dual clutch transmission to the front wheels and it quite a nippy little SUV. Here, we take it from the Klang Valley to the streets of Melaka, and back.

While I have posted over on the Motoring Malaysia Facebook and Instagram page, I seem to have forgotten to update that PROTON is proud to announce that bookings for the All-New PROTON X50 are now officially being accepted. This happened last weekend, where the company held somewhat of an unveiling ceremony at Setia City Mall. Themed “All-New PROTON X50: READY TO ROAR”.

Since its debut in 2020, the PROTON X50 has redefined the SUV segment in Malaysia, with over 140,000 units sold, positioning it as the nation’s best-selling B-segment SUV for five consecutive years.  The X50 was developed together with its joint venture partner Geely, who sell it as the Binyue and Coolray overseas, the X50 is truly a global product with over 1.2 million combined sales across 51 nations.

The folks at PROTON has allowed us to announced that they had shown us the All-New 2025 PROTON X50 and even allowed us to show some official renders of the new compact SUV that will soon be launched. This media preview was held a few weeks ago is the first marketing build up  as the Malaysian car brand prepares for its launch which is the first major model launch of 2025. With over 134,000 units sold since its debut in October 2020 the X50 compact SUV has been the number one model in its class for five consecutive years. It has been updated with-new styling both inside and out, upgraded ADAS level 2 features, an improved infotainment system with a larger 14.6-inch screen, and for the first time ever, Bahasa Melayu voice recognition. The car looks good doesn't it, with its new toothy grin and new interior.

The new 2025 onwards X50 will be available in three variants - the X50 Executive, Premium, and Flagship. PROTON will run a series of activation events in the weeks leading up to the grand launch of the All-New PROTON X50 to fan the flames of those who want to buy a car in the very, very near future. They want to show-off the new X50 with its new features as well as collect accept early bookings from potential buyers. (updated with video preview below)
