A Proton Suprima S run by Team PROTON R3 took the overall win at the recent Sepang 1000km (S1k) Endurance Race 2017. The car, driven by Admi Shahrul and James Veerapen came ahead of a lot of strong challengers and demonstrated that a well set up Malaysian car can come up triumphant against other well known sporting brands.
The Team PROTON R3 team also celebrated another achievement when their race prepared Proton Iriz R3 driven by Syafiq Ali and Farique Hairuman also finished the grueling endurance race in 5th place.
Endurance racing tests the skills and the stamina of the driver, the mechanics and also the reliability of the cars prepared. To compete and come up top in such an event is always a feat. It isn't just about raw power but reliability (as mentioned), managing tyres, brakes and the engine and also a large dose of luck thrown into it.
This time around, PROTON has come up with the winning package. Kudos to PROTON and it does show that the turbocharged Suprima S is reliable enough for long distance driving. As is the Proton Iriz. Of course, this is provided you keep maintaining the cars in good nick in the first place!
