PRESS RELEASE

ASEAN NCAP RESULT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR VOLKSWAGEN VENTO

Kajang, 19 May 2016 – The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has made an assessment of the newly launched Volkswagen Vento. The assessment was made based on the Volkswagen Polo Sedan’s ASEAN NCAP result from October 2013. With the Vento sets to replace the Polo Sedan in the market, Volkswagen provided technical evidence that its 1.2L variant is equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system.
As its score is based on the existing result of the Polo Sedan, the Vento scored 14.51 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) assessment. Due to ASEAN NCAP 5-Star pre-requisite, only Vento’s 1.2 variant is eligible for 5-Star rating as it is fitted with ESC. Whereas its 1.6 variant received 4-Star rating due to the absence of ESC. ASEAN NCAP also applied the Polo Sedan’s Child Occupant Protection (COP) result for the Vento, with 85% compliance, it is in the 4-Star category.
ASEAN NCAP Chairman, Prof. Dr. Wong Shaw Voon said:
“The Volkswagen Group should be proud of the initiative to replace the Polo Sedan by including ESC in the Vento. The Polo Sedan had already obtained good result but Volkswagen strived to go beyond the regulations by installing ESC in this new model. This shows that safety has become a key concern for manufacturers when introducing new models for consumers.”
ASEAN NCAP Secretary-General, Mr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim said:
“ASEAN NCAP has made significant impact to the automobile industry landscape as more manufacturers are meeting consumer demands to produce safer cars. The Vento and several other car models that have been assessed by ASEAN NCAP are good examples of this and we hope more manufacturers will follow suit.”
The ASEAN NCAP Q2 2016 results are as follows.
> Volkswagen Vento obtained 14.51 in AOP category. As Vento’s 1.2L variant is equipped with ESC and its 1.6L variant is not, the Vento received two ratings in which the variant with ESC is awarded with 5-Star AOP while the variant without ESC received 4-Star AOP rating. For COP, the Vento has met 85% compliance within 4-Star range.
